India skipper Virat Kohli praised his side for “clinical” performance and mentioned that young pacer Navdeep Saini’s (2/18) phenomenal bowling was a good sign for the team with the T20 World Cup just a few months away.
“This was a clinical performance, and that’s how we want to build on each series. We have ticked a few more boxes this time. Brilliant from Navdeep. He has done well in ODI cricket, and he’s bowling well in T20s, with experienced guys like Jasprit, Bhuvi, and Shardul.”
Navdeep Saini took two wickets while giving just 18 runs across his 4 overs while Shardul Thakur (3/23) ripped apart the Sri Lanka batting line up with his 3 wickets and strengthen his case for the World Cup selection. Jasprit Bumrah was also back for India after recovering from the lower back fracture as he picked up a wicket as well.
With such a powerful pace attack, Kohli said it is going to be a skill-based selection among the bowlers in the coming time. However, the captain also hinted that there could be a surprise package while going into Australia series in the middle of the month.
Really pleased to have Jasprit back in the side. He’s bowling with pace again. You’ll have to figure out who are the people that are very similar in their bowling skills, and you pick the senior one. I think one guy will be a surprise package going to Australia, someone who can bowl with pace and has bounce. Prasidh Krishna has done well in the domestic arena as well. This group of bowlers, it is a great luxury to have in all formats. Looking at the big World Cup, we have enough options,” Kohli said.
While talking about his own batting position, that keeps changing between No.3 and No. 4, Virat Kohli made it clear that he wants to explore both the positions according to the occasion.
“I want to play at three and four to figure out both positions and at the same time give a chance for the youngsters as well.”
